Fostering Discipleship with Volunteer Time Off

Discipleship. A word that signifies a dedicated follower of Jesus. My goal in life is to serve others as a disciple of Christ. The Candoris mission is centered on seeking success for others. Equally as important to our organization, we seek to serve. We do so from the foundation of our faith-based principles.

Within the past few years, my relationship with the Lord has grown and continues to grow as I gain wisdom from His Word. The more my understanding of the love and grace of Jesus expanded, the more I felt called by God to help others build their relationship with our Savior.

Candoris gives their employees a full week of Volunteer Time Off (VTO) each year to serve others through a nonprofit organization or ministry. I have chosen to use my VTO as an opportunity to serve and volunteer for Fairland Brethren in Christ’s Youth. By volunteering in the Fairland Youth ministry, discipleship is at work. As a youth leader, our role is to prep teens to surrender themselves to Christ and become an active servant of the Lord. I used my VTO to assist in taking the youth to A Closer Walk – a conference that is all about getting closer to God. Through this conference, Christian speakers, talented worship artists and genuine fellowship took place. By taking the youth to this conference, Fairland’s teens were able to actively pray with other Christian youth from around the region, worship Jesus through music, and for some, outwardly accept Jesus Christ for the first time.

A crowd of youth gathered to enjoy a night church service and worship music at Morey’s Pier in Wildwood, NJ.

To see so many teens raise their hands to worship Jesus in the midst of such change, battles, and pressures they face filled my heart with so much joy. By Candoris enabling their employees to volunteer without missed pay, I have had the opportunity to volunteer my time in helping teens grow to serve others and understand the freedom our Lord provides when you fully accept Christ. “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” – 2 Corinthians 3:17 (NIV).

With any volunteering and servant leadership I choose to use through VTO, I will always do so through the lens of discipleship. I am so blessed that Candoris fully supports me in this mission. Leadership has made it clear that the company why extends far beyond the bottom line – it has a much greater purpose: “It is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just make sure you don’t use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do…Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love” – Galatians 5:13 (MSG).
